First small seafood café located in Doncaster Market

Doncaster Market may not be somewhere you have ever considered would be the home to a fabulous fish restaurant, but Clam & Cork has recently been announced as a new entry in the Waitrose-sponsored Good Food Guide 2020 and is attracting many visitors to its market stall.

The Clam & Cork concept was started in 2018 with Michael Price, a highly regarded local chef who runs a supper club, and Michael Berry, a well-known fishmonger in the market since 2018.

Located in the fish market, the traditional wet-fish stall has been converted to a restaurant with an open-plan kitchen area and bar seating around the perimeter.

Small and large plates are freshly cooked to order with the large majority of ingredients sourced from within the market.

Diners can watch their meals being prepared and enjoy interaction with the chefs. In turn, chefs also enjoy feedback from diners.

Margaret Watson told Doncaster Echo: “We serve champagne, prosecco and wines all picked out to complement our menu. All of our wines are available by the glass, so you do have the flexibility to match perfectly with whatever you’re eating, although our wines are not the usual obvious pick. We have concentrated on what pairs with our menu best over the obvious choices. We have a great Greek Assyritko and several English sparkling wines and wines which pair great with the British classic fish and chips.”

Both the Michaels have since left and Margaret is running the Clam & Cork alongside both chefs Dave Booker and Jack Brown. This is all while planning an expansion which should be completed for Christmas.

Margaret added: “We are the first restaurant ever in Doncaster to go into the Good Food Guide and we are absolutely delighted, we have big plans to build on the success we have achieved so far.”
