Hatfield Town has continued its efforts to try and provide the best opportunities for young people in the Doncaster area.
Hatfield Town is proudly trying to reverse the growing trend of decreasing membership levels in youth cricket by investing money raised into local projects.
The club runs as a charity and are reliant on willing volunteers, all pulling in the same direction in an attempt to get youngsters back involved in Club Cricket.
Speaking to Doncaster Echo, Secretary Martin Winstandley told us the club was proud to be investing in local club projects to ensure the organisation can continue.
“Every penny we raise is invested back into club projects. Like many other local ‘village’ cricket clubs we were faced with the challenges of attracting new players and being able to continue as a club without any junior teams. But instead of folding, like many others, the club decided it would not lie down. The club now hosts Friday Family Evenings with qualified junior coaching provided free of charge and affordable food and refreshments provided for the rest of the family.”
Following the efforts of the club, the results have been positive. Hatfield CC can now boast junior teams at under 9, 11 and 13 levels, with Under 15’s coming in 2020. Also the club has formed a Women’s Softball Team, and will be looking to increase the number of girls playing the sport.
The Progress – means the club is now looking to improve facilities by adding a new pavilion and changing rooms.
