‘Winter Wonderland’ fundraiser for Doncaster children’s ward raises just under £1,000

On Wednesday 6 December 2023, the Paediatric team at Doncaster Royal Infirmary held a festive ‘Winter Wonderland’ event, raising just under £1,000 for our hospital Charity.

On the morning of Wednesday 6 December, colleagues and patients gathered in the Rainbow Garden at Doncaster Royal Infirmary to take part in activities and enjoy a bake sale and raffle.

Alongside a live brass band, there was also a special visit from Mr and Mrs Claus and a very special elf.

Nearby café ‘Brew Box’ also joined the fun, putting on a special sale for hot chocolate and mince pie, and donating 50p per sale.

Helen Mee, Senior Sister on the Children’s Ward, said about the event: “We had an absolutely fantastic time during our Winter Wonderland event earlier this week. A huge thanks goes to all of those who volunteered their time to contribute to our event and make it so special.

“We are so proud to have raised approximately £1,000, funds which will contribute to the improvement of our services and subsequently enable the best possible patient experience.”

In the latter part of the day, festivities moved inside the Women and Children’s building.

Young patients on the ward were entertained by Simon from 90 Minute Music, eventually creating a symphony of drums and rhythms which entertained and lifted spirits on the entire ward.

Nearing the end of the day the children were invited to attend a calming story telling session.

Throughout the day, supporters Muscle Food were in attendance, keeping staff and patients bellies warm and full with delicious pizzas and providing support for the many activities being hosted.

The helpers from the food retailer generously donated several bags worth of gifts to the Children’s Ward, Children’s Emergency Department and Children’s Outpatient Department.

The Children’s Assessment Ward at Bassetlaw Hospital also amped up the festivities as part of the day, hosting a bake sale and tombola.

All the funds raised in this annual celebration-come-fundraiser are reinvested into the paediatric departments across Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital.
