This month, Chief Superintendent Shaun Morley talks us through the important relationship between the community and officers.
In last month’s edition I talked about the priorities my team and I have for policing in Doncaster for 2019. Now I want to ask for your help. Our ambitious plans can only be achieved with the support of you, the Doncaster community.
This is an exciting time to get involved with our teams who work in your area. Over the next 12 months we will have 84 new recruits, with 20 additional posts also being created in our Neighbourhood teams. We are all committed to doing our best for Doncaster and want to hear about the issues that really matter to local communities.
We are currently developing tailored plans for each of our three neighbourhood areas and want to hear from you. What is happening where you live? What are the issues affecting your local community?
Where do you want us to take action? If you have any concerns, we are always happy to hear them so we can help out in the most appropriate way possible. It is always important to hear back from the community, as after all, it is your home as well as ours.
Over the next few weeks our officers will be out and about, so if you see them please do stop for a chat. They want to hear your views.
If you would like to get involved in shaping your local policing plan a great first step is to ‘like’ the neighbourhood policing team’s Facebook page for where you live – they regularly post updates.
You can also sign up SYP alerts via www.sypalerts.co.uk . Finally, look out for drop-in sessions in supermarkets and shopping centres, online meetings, and other events you can go along to and have your say. These events are a great way to connect to your local police force, and ensure your point is heard by us.
We will also be launching our new neighbourhood profiles very soon. They will show you the key issues we’re currently focussing on and what’s being done to tackle them. They will also show our top five priorities for your neighbourhood, and where and when you can meet us to have a chat about what you want to see. Importantly, there will also be pictures of your local officers so you can put a face to a name. We think having a connection between officers and members of the public is vital, so by knowing each one of our officers by face is something we look forward to introducing.
Your team in Doncaster is ready and waiting for you to get in touch – they are as passionate about your community as you are, and together we can make a huge difference. We’re looking forward to hearing from you soon.
